Top 10 Things I Learned On Vacation In NYC

10. Grand Central Station is “like Grand Central Station.”

 9. There is no such thing as “a good pair of shoes to walk around in” for me and my wonky feet.

 8. He wasn’t looking for a hand-out, he was looking for a hand-up. He’d even take fruit… but don’t give him fruit.

7. Standing in line and/or waiting around is a large part of “having fun.”

6. Mark Teixeia is a baseball god. But, I miss the old stadium…

5. The Laws Of My Life dictate that when given Letterman tickets it will be for the one taping of the week where he says nothing interesting or controversial.

4. One of the best things I did all week was stand “in a doorway, trying to make some sense…”

3. Coney Island is in desperate need of saving. Please, Someone!

2. Uma is supposedly a “giant bitch” and likes to stand in theme restaurant gift shops and scream into her phone.

Free Jovi Concert – not free for me!

So, last week I entered the CW11 contest for tickets for Bon Jovi’s free concert in Central Park on July 12th. I did it not thinking I’d ever win. I never win anything. Ever.

I won tickets.

So now we have a dilemma. Since we live 4-5 hours away we have to figure out how to get there – car, bus, train, air. If we take the car, where can we park without driving into the city? Don’t want to drive in the city. Can we park and ride somehow? We have to come back immediately after the concert because my husband has to work in the afternoon on Sunday.

  • The cost to take the bus is outrageous and will get us there late for the doors opening at 2 p.m. They have given away 80,000 tickets and are only letting 60,000 people in. If we get there at 3:30 after a 5 hour bus ride and are turned away I will be very upset. The bus home is very close to the ending time of the concert but I think we could make it. If I’m wrong we’d have to hang around Port Authority overnight – always a fun option.
  • The train is not an option – there is no train home until the next morning. Too late and don’t want to stay overnight in the station or spend the money to stay in a hotel.
  • Flights? Ahahahahahaha. Times are excellent, but 2 round-trip tickets, even on JetBlue, is an outrageous $558!!! For a 1 hour flight each way. Give me a break. That doesn’t include taxi fare either, of course.

So, unless we pay a fortune, chance the bus or figure out some park and ride strategy I don’t see this working. It’s very upsetting and just a huge tease.

Any ideas?
